Anthony Leek, Emo, Ontario (August 15 and 16) The weather was beautiful for two days of the biggest racing event in Northwestern Ontario as the Borderland Racing Association hosted the Annual Rea Memorial Races at the Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society’s 114th Annual Fall Fair.

WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and Emo Street Stocks took to the track in the biggest fields of 2014 as drivers from Manitoba, Thunder Bay, and the United States centred their sights on the biggest prize of the year, the two day point total of the Rea Memorial Championship. Defending Champions, Jamie Davis in the WISSOTA Modifieds, Christopher Leek in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and Cody Wall in the Emo Street Stocks were all in attendance to race it out once again.

On Friday night, Davis set the tone like usual at the event by clean sweeping the night by winning the heat and feature. While the heat race was relatively easy, Davis had to make a pass on Justin Jones of Bemidji, Minnesota on the last lap and won by only a couple feet in an exciting side by side battle.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Brady Caul marched quickly to the front from his outside pole position to repeat his Friday win from 2013. Defending champion Leek broke the right front ball joint forcing his first DNF of the year and conceding the season points lead to Chuck Lambert for the first time in 2014.
In the Street Stocks, Tylar Wilson passed five cars and held of a hard charging Kendal Gamsby to claim victory on day one. Defending Rea champion Wall was forced to retire early due to overheating issues.

On Saturday night, Davis won his heat again coming from the fifth position. Starting ninth in the feature, Davis moved up to second spot but was unable to mount a charge on Jones for back to back wins, Ward Imrie made the pass for second about halfway through the race but was unable to get to the leader in time as twenty-five laps caution free were completed.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Winnipeg driver Paul Veert started in the eighth position and moved up to the lead about halfway. Matt Depiero, who started fifteenth, got within a car length of Veert, but ran out of time with nineteen laps of caution-free racing to settle for second. Rea Memorial Defending champ Christopher Leek finished third and reclaimed the points lead in the season standings.
In the Street Stocks, Ron Westover held the high line over Tylar Wilson for the majority of the race, but Wilson did not give up and was able to squeak back to back wins at the Emo Fair.
The 2014 Rea Memorial Champions are Paul Veert in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Justin Jones in the WISSOTA Modifieds, and Tylar Wilson in the Emo Street Stocks. Congratulations! Thank you to all the great volunteers, sponsors, and fans for their support and helping in a great success at the Emo Speedway! The Keith McNally Memorial and Season Championship is this weekend.
