By Dha McLeod Morden, MB (April 30) Les McRae in Pure Stock, Dean Miljure in 4 Cylinder and Rebecca Stutsky in Slingshot got opening day wins at ALH Motor Speedway. As usual the Pure Stock feature provided plenty of close action and some yellow flags. With 15 cars on track at the same time and all of them seeming to want to be in the same spot, well, there is some trading of paint.
Both Jeremy Bezan and Chad Allen had good runs in their heat races but suffered some overheating woes when they had small rocks damage their radiators. In all five cars were not around at the finish.
The Smith’s had good results with Kevin Smith second, Pat Smith third and Raymond Smith fourth. Another member of the western gang, Brian Kentner, was fifth with Nathan Klaassen of Morden finishing sixth. But none were able to get past McRae is his beautifully wrapped Mustang.
Bailey Cousins, 13 year old son of Ryan and Slingshot champion from last year, ran the black number 7 and finished 8th in the feature after a fourth place finish in his heat race. Pat Smith, Raymond Smith and Bezan were heat winners.

Miljure and Ian Cabernel had good battles in both the 4 Cylinder feature and heat races. Miljure got the feature win with Cabernel second. The roles were reversed in the heat race. In the feature Jack Richardson who lives just a short distance from the track, was running well in the lead pack until a flat right front tire sent his Tiburon to the infield.

Stutsky proved the slow and steady wins the race theory when she was the only one running after Aiden Fehr and Tyler Doell had mechanical troubles that sent them to the infield. Even though she ran slow staying to the inside grove of the track she was able to stay running while Fehr and Doell were not.
