Santanna Tates, Winnipeg, MB (August 24) Mother Nature provided some beautiful weather for Red River Co-op’s Thursday Night Thunder. After having rained for the last two days, the track started out wet and tacky and by the end of the night the bottom line dried up. All in all, it was a great night of racing for Fans and Drivers.
In WISSOTA Midwest Modified action, Jason Somack started on pole with Dylan Sabatini to his outside, but it was Grant Hall who quickly became the race leader. Hall started in the sixth spot and picked up the checkered for the second time of the 2017 race season at Red River Co-op Speedway. Christopher Leek took second early in the race and finished there. Paul Veert started in seventh and made his way up to pick up third. Austin Hunter finished in fourth and Brenden Luschinski fell from third to fifth.
The 20 lap Wissota Modified feature saw Chris Unrau starting outside to pole-sitter Tony Caissie. Unrau took the lead and lead a good portion of the race. Ward Imrie took the first place position from Unrau and took home the victory. Scott Greer caused a caution early on in the race and was sent to the back but, he raced hard and fast to make his way through the field of cars finishing second. Danny Staff picked up third and Rick Delaine fourth. Dustin Wahl started last at the beginning of the race and picked up another top five finish this week.
In the Northern Super Truck class Darren Lane and Marc Zondag made up the front row. Rick Lowey moved up from fifth to take the early lead, but Jeff Rempel was able to make the pass for first. Lowey caught the back of Rempel and spun him, causing a pile up in turns three and four. Lowey was awarded the caution and sent to the back. On the restart, Jamie Vernaus went door to door with Jesse Pederson for second and with six laps to go took the lead from Rempel picking up the win for the night. Rempel finished second. Lowey made his way from the back to pick up third. Pederson and Zondag rounded up the top five.
In the Wissota late Model division Don Shaw returned to Red River Co-op Speedway and dominated; lapping half the field of cars in the feature. Ricky Weiss was running in second when a caution closed the gap between him and Shaw but he wasn’t able to make a pass for first finishing second. Shaw collected the win. Shane Edginton, Mike Balcaen and Kevin Sexton all had top five finishes.
In the 4 Cylinder class Bill Perdonic started in the back and finished the race in first. Shane Rehill had a great run. Rehill started tenth and collected a second place finish. Doug Krause finished third. Denis Seguin led the beginning of the race but fell back to fourth. Jim Mulholland finished fifth.
